This is a thread for new members to come in and say a quick hello to everybody. I’ll start!
Hi everybody, I’m Ken. Originally from upstate NY, I’ve lived in Atlanta, GA since 2006 and love turning wrenches. I bought my ’95 960 about 2.5 years ago now, loved the car, but hated the factory engine, and it’s lack of power and tubeability. The GM engine swap just seemed logical to me in every way to help make the car more complete.

May 29, 2012 at 11:09 am #963Hi! My name is Steve. I am a Volvo Master Technician, ASE master with L1 certification and currently work at a Volvo dealer. I live in Portland Maine and recently sold my 1999 Corvette. Naturally it didn’t take long to miss the sound and power of the LS1 engine I had. So, It might be tough to complete, but I would love to some point, hopefully soon, find a 940 or 740 wagon and do what you gentlemen have done and drop an LS in. I am married with two babies……. so now you might understand how this might be more difficult financially and to do timely for me. Lets hope I can accomplish something soon! Until then, I’ll learn from y’all about what to expect.
June 20, 2012 at 10:54 pm #982I’m PJ from Columbia, SC. I’ve been in IT for the last 16 years. I’ve been turning wrenches for while now (my mechanic hates it
)I’m more of a BMW guy, but decided to get something a bit different. I’m currently working on a E36 5.0L swap for AutoX and patiently awaiting Ken’s mounts to throw this 4.8L + 4speed in a 780 I dug up from FL. Since I have a suitable DD, the Volvo build will be . . . a bit wild . . . (think 7500rpm + Procharger
)

July 4, 2012 at 2:13 pm #1010hey, martin here
just wanted to put it out there that i am ready to LS.. my 240 wagon instead of taking it to the wrecker. would love to here from others doing the sameJuly 6, 2012 at 2:52 pm #1015I’m Connor! I have an 850 turbo wagon right now that I DD, but would love the idea of a 240 or a 700/900 series with a v8, so I’m looking into it for an eventual project.
August 7, 2012 at 12:24 am #1099Hello, I’m Doug and I’m a Ford retiree in the heart of the empire; Dearborn, Michigan. I was a BMW tech for 9 years in ’80s. Have worked in GM, Nissan, Hon/Yam/Kaw/Suz/Tri/Duc dealers, race shops, proto-fab, etc. Currently restore vintage Brit bikes for small business. Have a very rusty, but much loved ’83 242 Turbo, owned since ’86. Planned to do resto and V8 swap for years, but things kept coming and project got pushed farther back in shop. Finally pulled car out for honest look at what remained, bought virtually rust free stripper ’84 242 from Arkansas, so ’83 Turbo will be donor car. Currently doing body strip/resto on ’84 and gathering parts for V8 driveline. Why choose Ford? As a Ford retiree I get a good discount on Ford/Ford Racing parts and lots of info locally as Engineering, Dyno Lab, “skunk works”, are blocks away and employees live nearby. Neighbor is Ford Dyno Lab Product development guy. Mustang donors are cheap and plentiful, but as a retiree, I gotta watch the money! Looking for used/unused Converse Ford kit or parts for 200 series car for ages!
Also have 2000 V70AWD wagon with auto trans woes, what a nightmare car! Love the RWD Volvos, positively HATE the FWD/AWD. Parts astronomically $$$$, PIA to work on, service info hard to find, many $$$ “special tools”, “software upgrades”, “dealer only” stuff, SHEESH! Dealer quoted trans replacement $4500-$6000!
August 31, 2012 at 2:27 am #1136My name is Matt. I’m a machinist hailing from TN. I’m looking to swap a gen 1 sbc into a low miles ’94 940 sedan with a shot engine. DD is ’86 740 n/a wagon. She gets 25 MPG with the aerodynamics of a brick and electronics creeping up on 30 years in age.

ken@v8volvos.comSeptember 14, 2012 at 8:44 pm #1211Hi, Dave here, I live in Eastern MA on the South Shore. Longtime Volvo lover, currently driving a 2006 V70r but always wanted to drop a v8 into my 240 wagon.
November 18, 2012 at 11:25 pm #1238Eric W. here from Portland, OR. I’ve wanted to do a V8 Volvo swap since I first heard of the Converse conversion and the bug has never left. I picked up a white 92′ 960 wagon yesterday (white lighting – one bad grocery getter). Excellent shape but a blown motor, $400. I have a LM4 out of an 04′ Chev trailblazer. Have the motor, need the tranny. Motor didn’t come with any electronics so I’ll need everything… Before I drop it in, I’ll do an LS1 intake swap.
My DD is a Volvo XC-90. I work for an off-road accessories company and have 35 engineers with full shop / prototyping etc, so if collaborative as a group with find one thing to build that adds to your LS mounts, let me see what I can do!!
KEN – sorry but I’m going to be a stalker…..I have your mounts, the JTR tranny mount and I’ll get a good aftermarket harness / PCM / Tranny Controller, but I’ll need help on integrating the car wiring/brains and the fuel system……..I’ll check all the posts on the site before I bug you.
November 21, 2012 at 9:01 pm #1244Eric, welcome to the forums! As I stated on email though, I’d strongly recommend sticking with the stock ECU for a multitude of reasons. It’s VERY capable, and you won’t be starting from scratch (especially on the trans side). And FYI, if you’re wanting to do the LS1 intake swap for performance – at least go with the LS6 intake. The LS1 is a downgrade from the truck intake. I need to find documentation, but I’ve been told the truck intake was an approved part in Grand-AM racing. It certainly has very little restriction.

ken@v8volvos.comJanuary 18, 2013 at 3:27 am #1267Hi my name is Geoff I’m 25 from Northeast Pennsylvania and I have a 1996 Volvo 960.
I bought it last year for $1450 with no rust, just a scuff or two and needed some routine maintenance
I love the ls motors land want to put a lm7 in it. It just seems like a no brainer. The last car I had was a 94 vw golf and after that electrical nightmare I was though and wanted something different (rear wheel drive) and reliable.
I don’t have anything bought yet but I want to slowly acquire everything I need to make this happen. Just thought joining this forum would be a step in the right direction.
I wanna go fast!
